Suicide Prevention Support: A 2-day capability building program to develop supporting skills

Suicide is becoming an urgent public health issue in India, which accounts for almost 25% of the total male suicides and 37 % of the total female suicides worldwide. In recent times, there have been many reports of suicide or attempted suicide involving working professionals, students, homemakers and working adults in financial or relationship difficulties.

Suicide prevention and support requires Mental Health or Medical Professionals dealing with clients/patients; or, HR and Management professionals dealing with teams, to work with emergency care, families and peers of the individual to provide adequate support and care.

This 2-day training program equips helping professionals with skills and knowledge to help their clients, employees, patients etc. to navigate through suicidal crisis situations and helps them look at suicide from a bio-psycho-social lens.

This program will be conducted online on InfinumGrowth  and facilitated by Devika Khanna, Mental Health Professional and Trainer, on 13th and 14th December 2024.

The program will  use a combination of concept sessions, role plays, case discussions and reflective exercises to build a deeper understanding.

Learning Goals

  • Clarify myths around suicide.
  • Build an understanding about suicide, its warning signs, risk factors, causes and protective factors.
  • Build a skill set to communicate and support clients showing signs of distress.
  • Understand suicide risk assessment.
  • Learn about ethics, legality and self care for professionals.
  • Understanding Postvention.

Who could sign up and Why?

Mental health professionals, healthcare providers, emergency service providers, employers and managers often lack training, knowledge and skills to work with people showing signs of suicide. This training program equips them with skills that will help them become alert to suicidal tendencies and provide timely and preventive support.

Kindly note: This is an educational workshop.  You will receive a certificate of participation. However, this does not certify you as a practitioner or professional in the suicide prevention space.
